Top 3 Websites to Scope Out the Competition!

… I know who you are…
… and I’m always watching you…

I KID, I KID!! But recently I have been snooping around my favorite site & finding new & exciting needle felters & doll artists. I think I like to find new artists because it can be very inspiring to see what other people have going on, how they design & market themselves, and (I admit it) see how their business is doing compared to mine.

[box] What are these successful artists doing differently / better than me?

What can I do to improve my work / marketing / exposure / business? [/box]

I usually start out on these sites, check the profiles to find additional links to the artist’s websites or shops, then just keep clicking further & further down the rabbit hole till it’s like 3 hours later & I haven’t gotten anything productive done!

Top 3 Sites to Find New Artists!!

1. Flickr – Love this site. It’s the best to snoop around the various Flickr Groups to find interesting new people.
*Be sure to add links into your profile so I can click them!

2. Pinterest – I LOVE Pinterest! Not only can you find cool tutorials & DIY projects & Home Decor ideas & Yummy recipes, but you can also search for specific kinds of artists. I like to search for boards that contain the words “needle felt” or “art doll”. Then you can see Pins, go to the source, find the artist, click on another links…. another Rabbit Hole….

3. DeviantArt – This is my new place! I just signed up for an account last week & have been having fun finding some new artists. It’s a site dedicated solely to promoting & sharing art! I was hesitant to join before, but have been having fun. There are interest groups, you can “watch” artists for updates, and host your own page to get a bit more exposure!

Tackling the Craft Room!

So I’ve been collection inspiring Pins on “My Dream Craft Studio” Pinterest board. I was thinking that it would be for my future dream house (in Hawaii), but as my so-smart husband said yesterday…

“Uh… It’s gonna be a while till we actually GO to Hawaii, so why not redesign the kitchen now…”

So that’s what I’m starting today!! I’m tired of having a table & shelf in the kitchen that I use as my “craft studio”. I’m committed to making this thing a reality!!

I wanna go to IKEA and buy all sorts of organizational things…

but…

Gotta go through the crap I have first. BOO!!

A Total BONUS – I think I’m going to start going through that “crap” & maybe do a destash thing in my Etsy shop. I have a ton of supplies that I’ve collected through experimenting & never use, so keep an eye out for great deals on Art & Felting Supplies!! (like Acid Wash Dyes!)

Crafty Business Tips: Are You on Pinterest Yet?!?!

If you aren’t on Pinterest yet, than you are soooo behind that times, man. Pinterest is the fastest growing social media site online today.

I love Pinterest because it’s a great was to bookmark different sites, but without cluttering your bowser’s Bookmark Tool Bar. It’s based upon the idea of a giant cork board that you might take cut out articles from magazines & pin them to it. It categorizes all your “Pins” into self-created “Boards” that you name according to their content. I just like it because I can cruise the inter-webs & “pin” any photo I stumble upon, and keep it tucked away so I don’t forget.
