This last weekend we went to the totally awesome Horror/Sci Fi Convention Monsterpalooza!! Last year we visited the smaller Fall version Son of Monsterpalooza in October, but this was 100x bigger!!
Creepy Monster Mask
Creepy Monster Mask (look at chick in background photo bomb!!)
It was full of amazing artists, sculptors, Monster & Horror movie props, And even the Ancient Aliens Dude!!! …sweeeeettt…..
Hubby & Ancient Aliens Guy!
One of the main reasons we’ve visited so many conventions the past few months is cause I’ve COMMITTED to start selling at shows again!! I say COMMITTED rather than DECIDED because I’ve already signed up for one show & applied to another!!
I will be selling at the 2013 DCon – Designer Con!! After visiting last year I knew I had to sell here! These were my people, I felt like I could belong!! So I’ve paid for my booth & now there are no excuses!
I also applied to the summer Renegade Craft Fair!! I actually did this show, but it was 3 years ago. I hope I get in & can do as well (or better than) I did last time!!
NO EXCUSES NOW!! I’ve got a date, need to make a plan, & execute! I’ve got a few projects I’ve been R&D’ing the past few weeks & I’ll have pictures of them soon!!
I’m kinda excited!! (oh, yea…. I’ll be at Monsterpalooza next year too!!)
I’ve been thinking about how there doesn’t seem to be many craft events here in Los Angeles. I have friends that live in different cities that have VERY active DIY communities. I always wondered if the Los Angeles Craft Community was non-existent or if I was just dumb & didn’t get it!!
I found this link to a local Los Angeles Craft event! I think I’ll try & check it out! It would be nice to meet some more people in the local DIY community!!
So the first of 3 Geek Chic, Pop Culture filled weekends has come to an end. There are 3 Nerd-rific Conventions that we’ll be going to in the upcoming weeks.
Yesterday was WonderCon 2013, an awesome Comic / Pop Culture Convention…
Next weekend is Days of the Dead, a horror fest of apocalyptic proportions.
And Finally the weekend of the 13th is Monsterpalooza! Everything monster, horror, and fantastic!
Awesome selection of really cool Japanese Robots!
It’s our first year to visit these Conventions. My main goal (other than spending quality geek-time with the Hubby) is to check out future opportunities for selling my work. I’ve decided that coming this fall/winter season, I will be selling my sculptures in REAL-LIFE!!
Sculpture by fellow Needle Felter Wool Buddies. He sells fantastic needle felting kits.
So WonderCon was totally awesome (as expected). There were a ton of artists & vendors there that sold amazing illustrations, plush, toys, and everything pop culture related. I think the new direction I want to take my work in will do great there & this is a definitely MUST for next year’s Felted Chicken Show Schedule!
Looks like fun, they have an APP too!
The ONE movie I’m waiting for them to remake!
Speaking of “New Direction” (and not the boy band), I have been thinking & slowly transitioning the focus of Felted Chicken. I’m looking forward to expanding my reach to include fans of Designer Toys, Plush, & Geek Chic Culture. So the content of my blog & subjects of my pieces will be shifting. I think I was too concerned with not offending people, being safe & comfortable to really express myself!
I have no idea how the Lego engineers do it!!
At the Lego store in Downtown Disney. Talk about AMAZING sculptors!
So HERE I AM!! I am a totally geeky, nerd-love’n Sculptor who wants to make monsters & cute stuff!!
(my big purchase) You get Bonus Nerd-Points if you can tell me what this tee-shirt is from!!!
OMG… I thought my troubles were over last week when I wrote my getting-back-to-business post… I spoke too soon… I’ve been knockout for the last week with a horrible tooth infection! I’ve never had any really bad tooth problems, but OMG, IT SUCKS! You feel like you can’t do anything but focus on how your teeth feel like they are trying to escape the confinement of your mouth-prison. But feeling better today, probably have more tooth-torture to come, but feeling decent today!!
While I was out of commission, my feature was posted on the Website Artsy Shark. It was fun to write all the content myself & tried to add some new stuff in there! Please stop by and check it out!
I also am trying to work on some fun Spring inspired stuff to post soon, so if nothing happens (fingers-crossed) hopefully I’ll be posting fun new stuff in the next couple weeks!
So I’ve taken a couple weeks off because of some personal family stuff, and it’s sooooo hard getting back into the groove of things. When something happens that disrupts your regularly-scheduled day, I really throws me for a MEGA loop & it takes twice as long to get back to normal as the thing actually lasted!!!
So I’m slowly going to get back into sculpting, blogging, etc. Here are some picts of the Art Opening with my Pink Cthulhu Character at JapanLA!! There were quite a lot of people at the opening!!
